The human desire to advance and break new barriers is unsearchable, which affects the way we live now and in the future. The metaverse is the future of the Internet, an Internet with almost the five senses. The technology is still at its infant stage, with lots of research ongoing and so many pieces unknown. It will be the digital economy for all creators and developers. Everyone has something to offer in the metaverse.
Some of the metaverse experience includes:
- Connecting with people and the feeling of presence, a vision Meta, the new parent company of Facebook is pursuing to bringing the metaverse to life.
- Avatars
- Teleporting
- Virtual goods
- New gateways
- Interoperability
In the metaverse, people will be able to in real time visit family, friends, attend live music concert, conferences, go to the cinemas and visit any destination of their choice from anywhere in the universe. We are in the era where remote work is gaining prominence due to Covid-19 outbreak, the metaverse will make remote work visual and interactive in real time. People will no longer see the need to travel and the ecosystem will be more stable. The Internet of the future will affect the way people engage in communicating, buying and selling, and the way people worship their God.
Realistic and stylized avatars will be created by developers in the virtual environment to make the metaverse possible with the use of virtual reality headsets or augmented reality glasses, smartphones, computers, game consoles and lots more emerging tech. Avatars from different developers, creators and companies will be able to interoperate, that is the beauty of an experience where we are present with each other, it will take everyone to build it. That means everyone will have a stake in the gateways this new reality will bring.
Privacy and Safety
The biggest threat to the metaverse is privacy and safety. Cybersecurity will have to be built into the technology from the scratch. Our present technology has numerous information security challenges that targets technology, reputation and finance. The metaverse will inherit these security challenges and add an extra layer of challenge, which I would say is more critical to the very fabric that holds the human existence; which is people. The extra layer of threat would include the social engineering of the future; hacking the human mind for political, cultural or financial benefits. Cybersecurity experts, governments and the civil societies will be battling with the preventive and corrective mechanism to prevailing virtual, augmented or mixed reality experience that tries to manipulate our way of perception, actions and inactions in real life.
The Metaverse will activate a new digital economy and work. It will connect the world in an unprecedented manner. It will be the new act of terrorism in the future when abused and the core to national security of all nations. The nations and people who are better positioned will have an edge in the new world.
